The VRA Academy is the training wing of the Volta River Authority (VRA). Established in 1981, the VRA Academy is the conduit that provides the internal capabilities for the operational excellence of the VRA, which depends on its people. Over the past four decades, the academy has played a critical role in managing the VER's energy assets by providing training for the personnel needed to operate the machinery at the authority's thermal, hydroelectric and renewable power generation facilities. In addition to serving the VRA, the Academy also partners with power utilities in the sub-region to build the capacity, skills, and skills of staff for the efficient and reliable operation of their power supply assets. The academy is also a member of the African Network of Electricity Centres of Excellence (ANCEE) and has been selected as one of the five regional centres of excellence for the West African Power Pool, providing customized engineering and non-engineering training to power utilities in the sub-region.
