The West African energy sector is undergoing a historic transformation with the launch, in March 2025 in Abidjan, of the Forum for Women in Energy in West Africa (ForWE). This WAPP initiative, supported by the World Bank and GIZ, marks a strong commitment to integrating women into a sector still largely dominated by men.
ForWE is built around 4 pillars:
- Professional development, networking, and leadership,
- STEM education for girls,
- Entrepreneurship,
- Advocacy for change.
Under the theme “Breaking Barriers and Building Networks”, more than 70 participants from regional energy institutions took part in a training program implemented by the network of regional training centers. The training focused on leadership and confidence building.
The ForWE network will play a crucial role in creating a supportive community, increasing the visibility of women in the sector, and driving systemic changes toward a more inclusive energy future.
