Who are we ?
The VRA Academy is the training wing of Volta River Authority (VRA). Established in 1981, the VRA Academy is the conduit that supplies internal capacities for VRA’s operational excellence, which hinges on its people. Over the past four decades the Academy has played a critical role in managing the power assets of VRA by providing the right training for staff to keep the machines running at the Authority’s thermal, hydroelectric, and renewable energy generation facilities. In addition to serving VRA, the Academy also partners with power utilities within the sub-region to build the capacities, skills and develop the competencies of staff for efficient and reliable operations of their electricity supply assets.
With a mandate to provide quality-training
solutions in a reliable, safe, and environmentally friendly manner, the Academy
has the vision to be a model of excellence for training centers in Africa. Driven
by its core values of accountability, commitment, teamwork, integrity and
trust, the Academy employs experienced and qualified faculty to deliver on its
mandate. The Academy also boasts of access to live power plants and suitable
laboratories for hands-on training, and suitable boarding, catering, and
recreational facilities.

Over the years the VRA Academy has partnered with well-known brands and institutions, including GIZ, WAPP, APUA, KNUST, ECG, ICH, NAPTIN. Our clients
The
Academy trains over two thousand five hundred (2500) participants annually. Our
learners have come from VRA, AngloGold Ashanti, Goldfields Ghana (Damang and
Tarkwa mines), CIMAF Ghana Ltd (Tema), Sunon-Asogli Power Company (Tema), Ghana
National Petroleum Commission (GNPC), Ghana GRID Company (GRIDCo), Bui Power
Authority (BPA), Liberia Electricity Corporation, Electricity Distribution and
Supply Authority of Sierra Leone, (EDSA), Electricity Generation &

Our Location
The
VRA Academy is located in the clean, safe, serene environment of Akuse in the
Eastern Region of Ghana, about ten minutes’ drive from Okwenya, on the Tema-
Akosombo Highway. The unique location of
the Academy and proximity to Akosombo and Kpong Dams, and the Shai Hills offer
many opportunities for outdoor tours and relaxation.
